12th MPA Seminar, co-sponsored by 35th Tokyo International Film Festival (TIFF), was held. October.26.2022

MPA/JIMCA held the “MPA Seminar” co-sponsored by TIFF on October 26 (Wed.) at BASE Q, 6th floor of Tokyo Midtown Hibiya. This year’s seminar focused on both promoting and protecting the content industry in Japan. Japanese and international experts discussed valuable information about how production incentives can stimulate the development of domestic and international content as well as international co-productions. And they also discussed the status of online piracy in Japan and how site blocking is effective in contents protection. The seminar was also broadcasted as a web seminar and many people attended via the Internet.

The first part of the seminar featured presentations by Jon Kuyper, Film Producer and
Gina Black, Head of Physical Production, Screen Queensland.
And after attractive talk show by Patrick Brzeski, Asia editor of The Hollywood Reporter with Alan Poul, Tokyo Vice executive producer, Patrick Brzeski moderated a panel discussion on “How to gear up a globally competitive and sustainable production sector”.

In the second part, Eriko Watanabe, Associate Professor of The University of Electro-Communications and Izumi Hayashi, Attorney-At Law, Sakurazaka Law Firm, gave lectures.
And after that, Tomohiro Tohyama, Attorney-At Law, Partner, TMI Associates, moderated a panel discussion on “Utilizing the world’s best content protection tool”.
