MPA/DHU/TIFFCOM Master Class Seminar and Pitching Contest 2023 Announcement of the Winners October.27.2023
As part of TIFFCOM (the business contents market affiliated with the 36th Tokyo
International Film Festival), the MPA/DHU/TIFFCOM Master Class Seminar and Pitching Contest was held at Sangyo Boeki Center (Tokyo Port City Takeshiba Office Tower). This marks the 6th year for this event with the aim to build a platform for young filmmakers to extend their business overseas.
Master Class Seminar by Niv Fichman, producer of “Red Violin”, “Blindness” and “Sympathizer”, a new series of HBO.
Pitching Contest. Five finalists competed in this Pitching Contest, and as a result, the winners are as follows:
MPA Grand Prize
“Yataro the Poison Eater” Naoto Tsukiashi
Special Recognition Prize
“Visage Vault” Mamoru Osaki
The MPA Grand Prize winner will receive a trip to the “Global Film & Television Immersion Program” (one winner) in 2024 to see how the film and television business is conducted in Los Angeles. The award program includes a 5-day course, round-trip economy class airfare from Japan to Los Angeles, accommodations, and admission to the American Film Market (AFM). (Interpreters will not be provided).
In addition, the winner selected for the Special Recognition Prize will be invited to attend the Asia Pacific Screen Awards (APSA) to be held on the Gold Coast, Australia in 2024. The award includes round-trip economy class airfare from Japan to Australia, accommodation, and participation in the Asia Pacific Screen Forum. (Interpreters will not be provided).
It will be a once-in-a-lifetime experience for especially young filmmakers who are aiming to get a chance to work internationally in the future.
(In case of difficulties in traveling abroad or in holding the events due to the continuation of the Covid-19 outbreak, alternative opportunities are to be provided.)
