World IP Day Special Screening with WIPO Japan Office and Embassy May.01.2023

Japan and International Motion Picture Copyright Association (JIMCA), with the support of the U.S. Embassy and the cooperation of Toho Towa Company, held a commemorative screening of the movie “The Super Mario Bros. Movie” (released in Japan on Friday, April 28) as an event to celebrate World IP Day, April 26. WIPO Japan Office, the U.S. Embassy, and many other people involved in intellectual property and students studying intellectual property were invited to the event.

The theme of World IP Day 2023 is “Women and IP: Accelerating Innovation and Creativity”. This is an opportunity to highlight how the intellectual property (IP) system can support innovative and creative women (and indeed everyone) in their quest to bring their amazing ideas to market. A variety of commemorative events will be held around the world in conjunction with World IP Day to increase understanding of the role intellectual property plays in everyday life and to commemorate the contributions of inventors and artists to the advancement of society.

In Singapore, Indonesia, Malaysia, Thailand, Vietnam, India, Hong Kong, China, Japan and South Korea the Motion Picture Association (MPA) is co-hosting with U.S. Embassies, Consulates, government agencies and local film industries in-person film screenings and panel discussions.

World IP Day was established by the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) in 2000. This year marks the 24th year. JIMCA plans to continue to hold commemorative screenings as an opportunity for many people to learn about the importance of promoting and protecting intellectual property.
